Leadership Development Project

Global Research reveals: “Why is it that some schools, despite many challenges, including perceived brokenness in community and infrastructure, thrive and succeed?” The answer is always leadership, a principal who invites educators to  serve in their gifts, parents that care for their school, learners that have the opportunity to be loved, heard and seen as unique contributors in community. In our rural schools, these environments are often the only safe space where learners can experience support, including a nutritious meal.

For these reasons, we chose to partner with experts in the field of school leadership journeys, Our partner is Citizen Leader Lab (CLL), specifically their Leaders for Education programme. Since 2019 leadership training has been extended to 32 schools in the Midlands to help build confident and effective principals. CLL operates close to 2000 schools across South Africa. The year-long leadership journey involves core competency development around communication, structuring conversations for optimal participation followed by “The Awakened Leader” immersion.

In addition we have engaged the service of FEDSAS (Federation of South African School Governing Bodies) to assist our SGB’s (School Governing Bodies) and Principals with the ‘hard’ skills of school leadership; budgeting; administration, discipline, staff appointments and however best to equip them with their governance role. These interventions aim to ignite leadership and spearhead improved academic results and the education functionality of our Footprint schools.

Testimonials

“The partnership we have with Michaelhouse has been of great importance. It connected us with many stakeholders through PFP. We attended leadership workshops where I was equipped with leadership skills and knowing how to lead and manage the school, how to involve the community and parents in the school activities. Michaelhouse Community Partnership has recently renovated our school. We received reading books for learners. A mobile library is used where learners had to read with the help of someone from Michaelhouse. Reading has improved because learners enjoy competitions we have entered.Learning has been fun as learners also enjoy sports and music and art competitions we are involved in through the partnership we have with Michaelhouse.”
